UPPER WEST REGIONAL MINISTER CALLS FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION AGAINST COVID 19 STIGMATIZATION

As part of their corporate social responsibility Royal Cozy Hill Hotel popularly known in the Upper West Region as “Jirapa Dubai” has presented assorted items worth about one hundred and twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 120.000.00) towards the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic in the Upper West Region. The items include one hundred and sixty Veronica Buckets, one hundred veronica buckets stands, sixty hand sanitizers (500ML),twenty three hand sanitizers (5l) one hundred and fifty liquid soap(5L),96 tissue paper rolls (jumbo size, six Poll-up banners, one thousand five hundred Covid 19 posters and ten thousand Covid 19 flyers among other things.

The Upper West Regional Minister Dr Hafiz Bin Salih receiving the items, called on all to shun away from stigmatizing Covid 19 patients since they not deliberately on their own volition contracted the disease. He said those who have the disease may have had through no fault of theirs and therefore it calls for care, compassion and respect for Covid 19 patient wherever they may have been.

He said the issue of stigmatization is a stumbling block in the fight against Covid 19 disease in the country and he therefore urged all to maximize efforts in the sensitization and public education efforts in order to eliminate stigmatization in the fight against the Covid 19 disease. He thanked the management of Royal Cozy Hill Hotel for the kind gesture and said the items will properly utilize.

The Upper West Regional Minister said due to the magnitude of the problem of Covid 19 the government alone cannot handle it the reason for calling individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the government in the fight against the Covid 19 disease in the country.

He expressed his happiness towards the donation saying that Royal Cozy Hotel came alive with their generous donation in the fight against Covid 19 disease in the region. He said the fight is far from being over as the fight against Covid 19 disease requires  an all hands on deck approach. This he said will mean more donations by individuals and corporate organizations. He said all the eleven assemblies in the region will receive the items in the fight against the disease. He promised that all the items will be used judiciously and efficiently to fight against Covid 19 disease. 

Making the presentation to the Regional Coordinating Council the resident engineer for Royal Cozy Hill Hotel Mr Charles Dwamena said the company is making the presentation as part of their social corporate responsibility to ensure that they contribute their quota towards the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic. Mr Dwamena said there is the need for strict adherence to all protocols that will lead to the prevention of the Covid 19 disease. He said preventive measure put in place may be better since that is the easiest way to contain and present the disease. He called for the proper and effective use of the various items presented as that will go a long way stop and  contain the Covid 19 pandemic so that the intention behind presenting the items would have been achieved.

The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council has made and continues to make passionate appeal to well meaning Ghanaians especially to her sons and daughters both at home and abroad to come and assist the region financially and materially towards the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic. So far there have been positive response as several individuals and organizations have contributed towards the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic in the region. The region has a record of 19 infected persons with Covid 19 disease but the Upper West Region is yet to record any death associated with the disease.
